The big dig
1. A slip in the the Manawatu Gorge buried the highway and spilled into the Manawatu river. It was the biggest slip in New Zealand history.

2.In October Torrential rain sent even more debris crashing down 20,000 cubic metres of it.

    3. Diggers were used to dump rocks in big trucks but as they worked
more rock and earth slid down.

   4. The road couldn’t be reopened until the hillside was hard enough.

   5. The team cut down the trees and bushes at the top of the hill.

   6. It was time to bring in a bandit the bandit  was a grunty bulldozer

7.  It was days before Christmas and everyone was still at work they used a 20 tonne digger to scoop up great masses of rock and earth.

8. In early 2012  public was told the highway would remain closed until the middle of the year.

9.The Manawatu Gorge road was reopened to traffic in August 2012.

This person loves sport and having fun.
She's got blond hair like the sun. When she laughs it’s like everyone in the world can hear it. Her eyes are big and bright like a star. Her hair sticks up like a horse tail every day of the week. She seems to be as short as a dwarf. Oh she is my…..
He can either live on a farm or in a house. He has a big stubby nose. He has two pointy ears that stick out the side of his head. He has a very course hair on the top half of his body. He has long sturdy legs and two very smelly feet that take him everywhere. What is it?

For my reading I had to read a story called Not so Normal. It was about this boy that was also an alien and the story was not finished so I had to finish it for them.

Not so Normal

I did what anyone would do, squish it, then it broke into a one million pieces. Normal came out and said "How dare you! That is the only way for me to get to my own planet."

“Well," I said. "You are the most disgusting thing I have ever seen”. Then all of a sudden, Normal started chasing me all over the paddock. Then I ran home to Dad.
“Dad!" I yelled. "Normal is chasing me. He has turned into a disgusting alien”.
“Ok," says Dad. "We will have to shoot the thing." Then Dad grabs his shot gun and runs out the door. Then there is a bang. Normal was lying on the ground dead. “That is the end of him," Dad says.

Otama School

Otama School is in the middle of the country, some place fun.
Our school is very spacious and it has room to play rugby, tennis and lots of fun games. At Otama School lots of fun things go on, like we go ice skating, swimming and we do lots of fun art. We don’t have lots of children but our school consists of two classrooms.  It has a library that kids love to get books out of but most of all, we love new kids and we are always open to new ideas. Otama school is the best.

For my reading activity I had to read a story and then make my own trap. This trap works like this. You push the button that makes it go and then it senses if a possum is there. Then it will go over the possum and trap it.

Me
My eyes make me stand out in a crowd because they are starry bright. I have ears that sit on the side of my head and hear as well as an eagle. My lips glow at night because they are so bright. My hair flows down the side of my head and sits on my shoulder all day. I have two very useful arms that follow me everywhere and help me with everything.
Oh how I love myself.

Beautiful nature
Image result for beautiful nature
The playful, prancing horses jump about in the sun set. The red, yellow and orange sun, sets down, making shadows. The tree stands tall, sheltering the land. The horse shadows creep along. As the strong tree trunks bend over the lake, the autumn day finishes.

Yum Mud
As I step on to the field one of the players is heaving the mud encrusted ball across to the opposite side. Three, two, one, go! Straight into the lovely mud I go. I push someone in the mud then all of a sudden there is a bang! I turn around and it is my best friend in stinky mud. Then I grab the ball, dribble it up and bam - straight in the goal. Wow! The game is over and we won. I was so delighted and no one could even tell who I was.

For my reading I had to make a scene out of the story and the book was called grey angels and I chose to do a nurse scene with soldiers. So I did.

Why kids should play soccer

Soccer is a fun energetic sport that most people like to play. Soccer is all about having fun, but most people like to be competitive.

Soccer involves a lot of exercise. I know some people think soccer is hard but actually it is really fun. So I think people should play soccer because you get fit and you also learn a new sport. You can go places, meet new people and most of all YOU HAVE FUN

Horse Riding
It was Wednesday at horse riding. As I kicked her she moved on. Bounce, bounce I went in the saddle. “Am I going to fall off or am I going to stay on?” I thought. I gave her another kick. We were off down the arena . I zoomed around the corner, then came up to another corner. Then all of a sudden, boom! bang! I was flying. I was going to hit the wall. Then all of a sudden I was on the ground. I lay for a second then I jumped up and yelled out “safe!”. I hopped up again and off I went.

Swimming

I was at the starting line. My heart was pounding, waiting  for the clappers to go. Then suddenly there was a clap. Everyone was off and I was in the lead. I could see the finish line. I made it. As I  waited for my next race I cheered on people. Then Laura was up. I yelled “Go Laura! Go”. She’s winning - she won. I am up at the starting line for backstroke. I jumped in the pool. It was so cold. “On your mark’s, get set, go!” Everyone was off. Everyone was yelling at me “Go Abbey Go!” I came second. Yes! I hopped out of the pool and sat on my freezing cold seat, talking to my friends. I was yelling at everyone “Go Go”. I saw Miss Gardyne. She was sorting out our relay teams. In our team we had Eden, Jaemes, Daniel and myself.
“Ok lets go” I said. Jaemes and I were at one side, Daniel and Eden were at the other. We started, we finished, but unfortunately we came last. But we had a ball and that was the main thing. I swam for Otama School and it was amazing.

The Maori Pioneer Battalion.
On the 4 of August 1914 war was declared. The government decided to send eight thousand men to fight. The main group of soldiers were called the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. While soldiers were meant to be as old as twenty or older, some boys were as young as fifteen. They got into the army because most of the Maori did not have birth certificates. The Maori soldiers joined the army to help. Then they were known as Te Hokowhitu-a-Tu. Then in 1915 the men were sent to Gallipoli. At first the Maori soldiers were kept busy by digging trenches and building supply depots. The Maori's came to fight so they finally got their chance to go and fight. Too many Maori had already been killed at Gallipoli. Around the middle of 1917 the pioneer battalion was reorganised. The Otago men were replaced with around 470 soldiers. The battalion became known as the New Zealand (Maori) Pioneer Battalion. During the war 366 Maori were killed and more than seven hundred were wounded. They had seen their friends get killed and injured. Then at the end of the war the people of Belgium put up a Memorial on Anzac day 1925.

Athletics

I heard Mrs Mockford yelling, "Abbey go!".
I heard my name as I stepped up to the circle.
I saw the 14 meter mark waiting for someone to touch it.
I felt the cold black disc  touch my palm.
I felt as if I was going to faint.
I wondered if it would slip.

                                     Bofo

Bofo's bright red nose glows all night.
His blue lips are as dark as a bottom of the sea.
His pink top hat is as cute as a button.
His lollie pop bow tie makes him look like a responsible man.
The unique and evil face stares at me.
His face fills up with laughter.

                                                My reading activity

For my reading activity I had to read a journal story called Wind Fall. It was about a girl and her father and her father went to war and lost one of his close friends and he was never the same. I had to write a poem about how her father felt so I did.

Wind Fall.
The darkness fills his head .
The memories come on back.
You can see the battles in his eyes.
He is scared
He is worried about tomorrow.

His old rocking chair
Rocks this way and that.
As the days go by, waiting.
Blocking out everyone.
The yelling, the screaming.
Never knowing which way to go.
As long as you get there.

                                          Dinner

As Mum brings out the succulent pork, everyone stops and smells. As Dad cuts the pork I eat every bit, well most of it. Mum dishes up the crispy potato, juicy carrots, and delicious cabbage and pork. As Mum pours on the gravy, she yells out ''tea time''! Every one races to the table and grabs their tea.
